The HS 4G2E is a 6 port gigabit fiber optic switch with 4 1000M fiber port and 2 10/100/1000Mbps RJ45 ports. Both SC and SFP connector types are available for this model. The switch provides two Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T copper ports and two SC/SFP slots for fiber optic cables. It allows the converting from fiber to fiber or from fiber to copper; what’s more, it can also help to connect a local Gigabit Ethernet copper LAN network to a fiber optical backbone switch to extend the transmission distance.
In general, s Gigabit switch refers to a switch with a gigabit port for both uplink ports or downlink ports. We can also think it as a switch that supports 1000M or 10/100/1000M transmission. For a gigabit switch, either the fiber port is at 1000M transmission rate or the Ethernet ports functions at 10/100/1000Mbps auto-adaptive speed, or all ports works on gigabit speed.
Many of the nowadays network applications require faster LAN connectivity speed by using Gigabit Ethernet switch or even 10 Gigabit technology. It’s a big change which does not only happen in the backbone of the campus/enterprises network, but also in every wiring closets. Many IT managers of the enterprises are seeking for 10 times the previous network connection for each desktop user to ensure the best user experience and best efficiency of daily work. With the development of this trend, fast Ethernet switches are getting outdated for above applications and they are used more often in some small home and office networks.
HS 4G2E is a hot selling model for some small range network applications. It is with only 2 Ethernet RJ45 ports. If there is only one or 2 Ethernet devices but the datas are needed to be distributed to many different locations through more than 2 other switches, HS 4G2E would be a perfect solutions. Through the 4 fiber ports, you are able to make a daisy chain network with other 3 switches to reach long distance network coverage.
